It's the Dirt Cheap and Stranger Inside show featuring Indiana rockers Dirt Cheap led by vocalist Michelle Simoni and two other Simonis on guitar and bass. Regional faves Stranger Inside boast that they are proud members of the Reistertown Moose Lodge.
Just across the Bay Bridge in Easton, catch L.A. singer Charlotte Martin with Matt Duke at the NightCat tomorrow night (8 p.m.). Martin's latest release, titled "Stromata," is an intoxicating affair marrying electronic atmospheres with a classically trained voice. The album was produced by husband Ken Andrews.
When I speak of classically trained voices I'm referring to the territory somewhere between a great opera singer, for instance Rennee Flemming, and the pitch-perfect vocals of folk singer Joan Baez. Tomorrow night at the Lyric Opera House in Baltimore, 3 Mo' Divas take the stage for a very special Maryland Public Television production (8 p.m.).
These three classy and stylish vocalists are expected to stretch out, covering an enticing mix of opera, soundtrack tunes, jazz, blues, soul and even rock 'n' roll. The informality of the affair is evident from the get-go when you open your program to see names like Jamet "Smooth and Sexy" Pittman, Laurice "Take No Prisoners" Lanier and "Super-Nova" Payton. Witness no fewer than 10 styles covering 200 years of music in one big night.
