Lower-body workout“It's great exercise,” says Tanya Montez, a member of the Alamo City Rollergirls, an amateur roller-derby league in San Antonio founded in 2005. “Anybody who has been in (the league) since the very beginning, their bodies have changed so much.”
“There's a saying among skaters, ‘You can tell a skater by looking at their butt,' ” says Tracy Muggy, a personal trainer and skating coach in San Antonio.
Roller skating provides a good aerobic workout, burns more than 470 calories an hour for a 160-pound person and is easy on the knees.
Skating primarily works the lower body, including the glutes, quadriceps and hamstrings.
