recently bought the pro fitness magnetic exercise bike form Argos, but am having problems assembling it. It says you have to disconnect the resistance adjustment from the trimming lead before putting the trimming lead through the handlebar post hole and reconnecting again. Cant get them disconnected as its in tension. Has anyone else bought and assembled this?

The exhibition, which opened Friday and remains through Jan. 10, takes a mischievous step back from one of the Big Ideas of modern art: the notion that "pure" art has to be useless.

The French artist Marcel Duchamp's early 20th-century "readymades" - made from ordinary objects such as bike wheels and urinals - deliberately divorced the items from their original function because they sat in galleries instead of on the street or in bathrooms, where they otherwise belonged.

Current artists such as Richard Serra, who cut sheets of (useful) industrial steel to make his (arguably useless) sculpture in downtown's new Pappajohn Sculpture Park, have described what they do as deliberately impractical.

"Art is purposely useless," he once told the New Yorker. "Its significations are symbolic, internal, poetic (and) a host of other things."

But as its title suggests, "Return to Function" blurs the boundaries between fine art and applied design, between the gallery and the shopping mall. A big part of its appeal, in fact, is the way it explores the real world.
