hey, im trying to find a mountain bike short liner, or shorts that come with a liner, that has has padding in the perineum area. Just looking for some opinions and/or testimonials. thanks!!

A: I like and have had good luck Pearl Izumi shorts. All the Pearl Izumi shorts I've bought have really nice, comfortable chamois liners.

My wife once got me a pair of baggy "mountain biking" shorts, but I prefer tight "roadie" shorts. Even though the baggy shorts have a tight, form fitting, heavily, padded liner, the loose fabric of the shorts tends to bunch up in places I don't want it to bunch.

There are two kinds of cyclists: Those who love the Spandex and those who do not.

The former zip along pathways and highways, clipped-in, tush padded, rain-ready with neon windbreaker and paniers.

The latter cruise downtown streets in everything from suits and skinny jeans to skirts and heels with messenger satchels and wicker baskets in tow.

My 1969 Raleigh ladies’ clunker puts me in the last bunch. The fenders, low bar and basket make it skirt-, heels- and purse-friendly for short daily commutes. But a recent, friend-inspired curiosity to ride farther and faster led me on the hunt for a bike to accommodate all my needs — style included.

What I found along the way was a trend in bicycles that accommodates fashion, and vice versa: a trend in fashion that accommodates a variety of everyday cyclists.

At North Park Bicycle Shop in Victoria, the most eye-catching ride is the Alexander Girard Amsterdam by Electra bikes — a manufacturer known for its line of cruisers and city bikes, popular with celebrities such as supermodel Agyness Deyn. The fire-engine red bike looks heavy — like its traditional Dutch inspiration — but is made of light steel.
